DayZ Stand-Alone Release Rescheduled, ‘Closed Testing’ To Begin Soon

The big question on everyone’s mind is…. where is the standalone?

DayZ creator Dean Hall wrote in a blog post this morning, saying he’s delaying the standalone in order to revamp the whole thing!

Here’s a quote:

“Put simply, DayZ Standalone isn’t here because we had the chance to go from making a game that was just the mod improved slightly, packaged simply, and sold – to actually redeveloping the engine and making the game the way we all dreamed it could be. This blew any initial plans we had dictated to pieces.”

What’s the plan going forward? Dean writes:

“The plan from here is straightforward. We will be releasing a closed test imminently, during which approximately 500-1000 people will assist in ensuring our architecture is correctly functioning. This closed test will be focused purely on architecture, not the game design. Once we have confirmed fixes for issues arising from the closed test, we will then reschedule an internal date for our public release.”

They sound like they’ve put in a lot of time and effort into making this game as badass as they can… a true zombie survival game!

Some of the things he mentions having is a completely redone inventory system which will open the doors for items such as batteries and picking up single pieces or parts instead of a pile. One cool change is if you shoot a player with night vision goggles in the head, you can damage the NVG’s. Wow!

They have some new screen shots on their blog as well. Head over and check out the new artwork.

All I can say is DAMN!!!!! I can’t wait for the standalone! Can you?
